Lemon Peel Herbal Tea and Mistletoe (Scurrula atropurpurea (Bl.) Dans.) as Complementary Therapies against Breast Cancer (Anti-cancer Test on MCF-7 and T-47D Cells)

Abstract

Herbal plants in Indonesia are very common and have been utilized since along time ago. It can handle some of degenerative disease like cancer. Cancer is one of the complex disease and 1st rank caused of death in the world. Breast cancer incidence rate increased slightly by 0.3% per year. The purpose of this research is to know the activity of lemon peel and mistletoe teaas complementary therapy of breast  cancer (T-47D and MCF-7 cell). In this research phytochemicals, DPPH, BSLT, and MTT test are being conducted to the lemon peel andmistletoe tea extract, so it can be known the content of metabolites compound, and the activity as anticancer. The result of this research shows that lemon and mistletoe tea extract contain several metabolite compounds, such as flavonoid, saponin, tannin, and etc. the result of DPPH test IC50 value is 90,8 that classified as strong antioxidant, the result of BSLT test LC50 value 119,79 (toxic), and the MTT result shows that the combination extract of lemon peel and mistletoe has bigger potential in inhibit the viability of t-47D cell than the MCF-7 cell.
